Parents and guardians across the country should prepare for an earlier-than-expected school closure ahead of the August holidays. Education officials have hinted that schools may close sooner than the dates originally outlined in the academic calendar due to various logistical and administrative considerations.
According to sources within the Ministry of Education, the decision is being considered to allow adequate time for school maintenance, exam preparations, and rest for teachers and learners following a tight school term. While the official announcement is yet to be made, school heads have been informally advised to adjust their schedules in anticipation of the change.
“This term has been particularly packed, and there are growing concerns about fatigue among both students and teachers. An early break will help everyone recharge before the next academic stretch,” said a senior official who requested anonymity.
If confirmed, the revised dates will affect both primary and secondary schools across the country. Parents are being urged to begin making necessary arrangements, including travel and childcare plans, to accommodate the potential early closure.
Some parents have welcomed the news, saying it will give their children a much-needed break from academic pressure. However, others have expressed concern about disruptions to their own schedules, especially for working parents who may need to organize care for their children sooner than expected.
The Ministry of Education is expected to issue an official communication in the coming days to clarify the new closure dates and provide guidance to school administrators.
As learners wrap up the current term, parents are advised to stay informed through official channels to avoid misinformation. Any change in the academic calendar will be published by the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) and communicated directly to schools.
