Mugithi musician and police officer Samuel Muchoki Ndirangu, popularly known as Samidoh, has flown to London amid growing public interest surrounding his reported transfer within the National Police Service.Sharing a cryptic message on social media, the singer wrote, “The tree does not curse the axe; it grows around the wound and reaches higher still,” a statement many believe is a subtle response to the swirling speculation about his professional situation.

This comes hours after IG Douglas Kanja addressed, to clarify the reasons behind various recent transfers within the service.

While avoiding direct reference to Samidoh, the IG emphasized that transfers are part of routine administrative procedures intended to enhance operational efficiency.

Reports suggest that Samidoh was moved from the Central Region Police HQs to Administration Police’s Anti-Stock Theft Unit in Gilgil.

The alleged transfer comes just days after a video emerged of the singer performing while the crowd chanted politically charged slogans as “Wantam,” widely interpreted as a call to limit President Ruto to a single term.Sources claim senior officials viewed the incident as a breach of the Service Standing Orders, leading to internal disciplinary reviews.

However, IG Kanja maintained that officer reassignments are normal and not punitive, downplaying the link between the viral performance and Samidoh’s redeployment.

Confirming the transfer in a brief statement, Samidoh reportedly told the Standard, “I’m reporting to Gilgil first for further deployment.”

Despite the controversy, Samidoh insists the move is routine. “I wouldn’t say there is any basis. Normally, police are transferred to serve anywhere within the borders of this country,” he said as quoted.
