The Abakhulo Council of Elders from Samia has officially withdrawn its support for Busia Governor Paul Otuoma, instead endorsing Principal Administrative Secretary in the Executive Office of the President, Arthur Osiya, as the most suitable candidate to unseat him in 2027.
Led by their chairman, James Okumu Onyango, the elders paid a visit to Osiya’s residence in Kakurikit, where they declared their confidence in his leadership qualities. Onyango noted that Busia County needed a decisive, visionary leader who could steer it away from corruption, mismanagement, and persistent political wrangles.
According to Onyango, Governor Otuoma’s administration had lost the faith of the people, especially in Samia, due to its failure to deliver meaningful development.
We believe Arthur Osiya is the right person to rescue Busia from the current state of stagnation. He understands the challenges of our people and has the networks and experience to bring meaningful change, Onyango said.
The elders further pledged to rally the Samia community and other Busia residents behind Osiya’s bid, signaling a significant political realignment that could shape the county’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial race.
In his remarks, Osiya expressed gratitude for the endorsement, terming it a sign that Busia was yearning for new leadership. This is not just about politics; it is about restoring dignity, accountability, and service to the people of Busia, he stated.
The endorsement follows a similar declaration by the Marachi Council of Elders, strengthening Osiya’s momentum against Governor Otuoma.
