The migration of Kenyan maids and domestic workers to Gulf countries such as Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, and Dubai has grown over the years due to the promise of better pay and improved livelihoods.

In Saudi Arabia, Kenyan maids earn between SAR 800 to SAR 1,200 per month (USD 213 to USD 320).

While basic needs such as accommodation, food, and medical care are covered, many face challenging working conditions, including long hours and limited freedom.

In Oman, salaries range from OMR 100 to OMR 150 (USD 260 to USD 390), while in Qatar, wages range between QAR 1,200 to QAR 1,500 (USD 330 to USD 410).

These countries offer similar benefits as Saudi Arabia, such as housing and annual leave. However, working conditions may be slightly better, with some Kenyan workers reporting more respectful treatment.

Dubai offers the highest pay, with salaries between AED 1,500 to AED 2,000 per month (USD 410 to USD 545).

The city also provides regulated working environments and stronger legal protections for domestic workers. Benefits in Dubai often include bonuses and performance-based increments.

Key factors influencing wages and conditions include local labor laws, recruitment agency practices, experience level, and the employer’s discretion.

Despite the financial gains, domestic workers face challenges like cultural adjustments, legal vulnerabilities, and potential exploitation.

Therefore, prospective workers are advised to choose reputable agencies, understand employment contracts thoroughly, and be aware of their rights in host countries.
