Fresh controversy has rocked the political arena after leaked WhatsApp conversations, allegedly shared among top legislators, painted a picture of President William Ruto’s tight grip on Parliament.
The leaks, reportedly obtained by The Standard, suggest that critical decisions in the House are being driven more by loyalty to the President than by the people’s will.
In the conversations, South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro is seen congratulating colleagues in both the National Assembly and the Senate for successfully impeaching Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

The move, which has divided the political landscape, is portrayed in the chats as a carefully coordinated plan rather than an independent parliamentary process.
Shortly after, the leaks show President Ruto forwarding the name of Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki to MPs and Senators as his preferred nominee for Deputy President.
Legislators are then urged to fast-track his approval, raising questions about the independence of parliamentary oversight.
The leaked chats also reveal an explosive claim by Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot, who reportedly boasted that the government was able to slow down Safaricom and Airtel internet services during recent nationwide protests.
However, he admitted they could not interfere with Starlink, a satellite-based service, highlighting the government’s growing discomfort with alternative communication technologies.
Tempers also flared within the group as Senator Methu, Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi, and Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja exchanged sharp words over the impeachment process.
Their heated exchanges reflected the widening cracks within Ruto’s own camp.
Adding fuel to the fire, Mwala MP Vincent Musyoka allegedly criticized colleagues who were not fully aligned with the President.
He confirmed that government projects are distributed based on loyalty, a claim that has long been whispered in political circles.
