ruto in Nanyuki

President William Ruto made a rare move during his visit to Kinangop, Nyandarua County, on Thursday, April 3, 2025. After laying the foundation stone for the Engineer Modern Market, Ruto instructed his security detail to allow the public to approach him, breaking from usual protocol.

This moment followed an earlier attempt by officers to keep the crowd at a distance, including a situation where a Kenya Wildlife Service officer was seen slapping a resident trying to get closer to the President.

The incident occurred as the President was touring the Mt. Kenya region, where his reception has been met with mixed reactions. The crowd cheered when Ruto intervened, telling the officers to step aside and let the citizens come closer. His action received applause, signaling his connection with the people who had gathered to listen to him.

Ruto’s visit also stirred tensions among some politicians. Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah faced a hostile reception when a crowd heckled him during his address. Despite the interruptions, Ichung’wah remained defiant, asserting that he would not be intimidated.

The President’s tour included significant announcements, such as the establishment of Nyandarua University, which is set to admit its first students by September 2025. This move is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance education infrastructure in the region.
