In a statement he issued on Thursday, June 08, 2023, political analyst Prof Mutahi Ngunyi highlighted what Kenyans should expect regarding the Finance Bill 2023 and emphasized the need to assess President William Ruto’s competence in handling the situation.

Ngunyi stated, “Ruto has to do what Ruto has to do. The Finance Bill 2023 will pass. If it does not, it is because he is politically incompetent. And Ruto is far from being incompetent. Give the man a chance to execute his vision. Then leave it to the masses to judge. It’s that simple.”

Assessing Ruto’s competence, Ngunyi expresses confidence in his capabilities and urges people to give him an opportunity to execute his vision. Ngunyi believes Ruto is far from being politically incompetent, implying that he possesses the necessary skills and expertise to navigate complex situations like the Finance Bill 2023

The Finance Bill 2023 is a contentious issue that has been weaponized for political gains, according to Ngunyi. It seeks to amend various tax-related laws and has sparked a heated debate among different factions. Despite the opposition’s resistance to its passage, Ngunyi believes the bill will ultimately be approved.

A few days ago, Prof Mutahi Ngunyi also argued that President Ruto faces a challenging dilemma over Finance Bill 2023.

He opined that increasing taxes could lead to public discontent, while not increasing them could result in financial repercussions. Therefore, Ngunyi suggests that Ruto should follow the principle of “For the people, despite the people,” attributed to President Kamal Ataturk of Turkey. This approach entails making decisions that benefit the citizens, even if they may initially be unpopular.

Ultimately, Ngunyi emphasizes the importance of leaving judgment to the masses. The citizens’ assessment of Ruto’s actions and decisions will determine his political standing. Ngunyi simplifies the matter by stating that after Ruto executes his vision, the people will have the final say.

It is worth noting that while Ngunyi supports Ruto’s competency and calls for giving him a chance, other commentators have expressed concerns over the government’s taxation policies and hinted at the possible collapse of Ruto’s reign if the concerns are not addressed.
