The country is always used to seeing President William Ruto with his Aide-de-camp from the Kenya Army: Colonel Fabian Lengusuranga.
But while on his state visit of the USA where he met his host President Biden at the White House, Washington DC, Colonel Lengusuranga was nowhere to be seen.
As Dr Ruto alighted from the presidential limousine where he had been chauffered from the Joint Base Andrews in Maryland to the White House, it was an aide from the USA Air Force that opened the car door for the Kenyan President.
The USA military had fully taken charge of Dr Ruto, giving his trip of the world’s most powerful country, a new whole meaning, pomp and colour.
Ordinarily, even in Kenya, when a foreig President is received for a state visit, he is assigned a new ADC from the Kenya Defence Forces ( KDF ). So, the developments in the USA is not any unique.
On being received at the most powerful office and building in the world, Dr Ruto held one-on-one talks with President Biden.
Earlier, Dr Ruto was received at the Joint Base Andrews by USA First Lady Dr Jill Biden before being taken to the Arlington National Cemetery for flower wreath laying session.
It is the first state visit to the USA accorded to the Kenyan President for the first time since 2003 when the late Mwai Kibaki was hosted by the then President George Bush.
