President William Ruto is set to grace the Kenya Music Festivals 2026 State Concert at State Lodge, Bungoma, on Friday, August 14, as the country celebrates music, culture and young creative talent.
According to a media invitation issued by State House Press Secretary Emmanuel Talam, the State Concert is scheduled to take place at State Lodge, Bungoma, with accredited media organisations invited to cover the event.
The concert marks the culmination of the 98th Kenya National Music Festival, which has brought together thousands of learners, teachers, adjudicators and other stakeholders from across the country.
The festival has been hosted mainly at Kibabii University in Bungoma County and has provided students with an opportunity to showcase their abilities in music, dance and other cultural performances.
The 2026 festival is being held under the theme “Enhancing the Creative Economy Through Artistic Expression for Sustainable Development.”
The theme highlights the growing focus on using artistic talent to create economic opportunities while preserving Kenya’s diverse cultural heritage.
The festival has also boosted economic activity in Bungoma, with hotels, restaurants, transport operators and other businesses benefiting from the influx of participants and visitors.
Reports indicate that about 143,000 students have taken part in the national festival.
President Ruto’s attendance is expected to give the State Concert national prominence as performers conclude the 2026 music festival.
The event will bring together performers and education and government officials for a celebration of Kenya’s musical and cultural diversity.
The Kenya Music Festival has traditionally served as an important platform for identifying and nurturing talent among young Kenyans, with performances ranging from traditional music to contemporary and classical presentations.
For Bungoma, hosting the national festival has also provided an opportunity to showcase the county’s cultural heritage while supporting local businesses.
The State Concert is therefore expected to be both a celebration of the performers’ achievements and a platform for highlighting the role of the creative economy in Kenya’s development.
