President William Ruto convened a high-level security meeting at State House on June 28, bringing together top security chiefs and National Government Administration Officers following the deadly June 25 protests.
He urged them to uphold unity and ensure national security amid rising tensions. Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, his deputies, and the Director of Criminal Investigations were in attendance.
The protests, which spread across major towns including Nairobi, Kisii, and Mombasa, resulted in at least 16 deaths and over 400 injuries, according to Amnesty International.
The government termed the protests a coordinated attempt at regime change and economic sabotage. Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen reported that over 300 officers were injured and five guns stolen.
Nine police stations were attacked, with Dagoretti, Molo, and Ol Kalou among those torched. Several government vehicles were destroyed.
President Ruto condemned the chaos, calling for accountability while pledging firm action to protect the country’s stability and investigate the organizers of the protests.
