President William Ruto has continued his development tour of the North Rift region, arriving in Chepkorio, Elgeyo Marakwet County, instead of making an anticipated appearance in Bondo, Siaya County, where memorial engagements linked to the family legacy of the late opposition leader Raila Odinga were expected to take place.
Political observers had anticipated that Ruto and former President Uhuru Kenyatta might attend the engagements in Siaya. However, the President proceeded with his scheduled development activities in Elgeyo Marakwet, where he was accompanied by senior government officials, Cabinet representatives and local political leaders.
Ruto arrived in an official Kenya Air Force helicopter before inspecting ongoing development projects in the county. During the visit, he commissioned the Chepkorio Township-Kipsaina Road, marking a step in the government’s efforts to improve local transport infrastructure.
The President also launched expanded last-mile electricity connectivity initiatives intended to extend power access to rural households and support economic activities in underserved communities.
In addition, Ruto inspected construction work on a modern market facility being developed under the Economic Stimulus Programme. The project is intended to provide traders with improved trading facilities and support local commerce.
The engagements formed part of the administration’s wider infrastructure and economic development programme across the North Rift region.
Meanwhile, uncertainty remained over whether the President would travel to Bondo after completing his activities in Elgeyo Marakwet. No confirmed information was provided regarding his subsequent travel plans or whether he would attend the memorial engagements.
The President’s absence from the anticipated Bondo appearance drew attention because of the significance of the event and expectations surrounding the possible attendance of prominent national leaders.
For now, Ruto’s public schedule has remained focused on infrastructure projects, electricity access and market development in Elgeyo Marakwet, while attention continues to centre on whether he will make a later appearance in Siaya County.
