Weston Hotel

President William Ruto is no longer listed as the owner of the controversial Weston Hotel, according to newly released records. The ownership of the high-profile property, located along Lang’ata Road in Nairobi, has officially changed hands, ending years of public debate over the president’s ties to the hotel.

While the exact details of the transaction remain unclear, sources familiar with the matter confirmed that the change in ownership was completed in early 2025. The development has been quietly recorded with the relevant regulatory authorities, including the Registrar of Companies.

A list of the new shareholders reveals a group of private investors and corporate entities, some of whom are believed to have links to the hospitality and real estate sectors. The new shareholders include:

Nairobi Grand Holdings Ltd – 35%

Elgon Ridge Investments – 25%

Mercy Wanjiku Kariuki – 15%

Bluepeak Hospitality Group – 15%

Lavington Capital Partners – 10%

The new ownership structure appears to distance President Ruto from the hotel, which has long been the subject of public scrutiny over its land ownership and acquisition process. Critics have often used Weston as a symbol in debates about corruption and land grabbing, despite repeated claims by Ruto that he acquired it legally.

The move comes amid heightened focus on asset declarations and transparency by public officials, especially with the 2027 General Election approaching. Analysts speculate the transfer may be aimed at managing political optics or legal risks.
