Parliament has made new adjustments to the list of nominees for national honors, introducing three new female leaders just a day after the initial names were released. The revised list, published on October 8, 2025, has sparked discussion across the country as Kenyans try to understand the sudden reshuffle.
The earlier list, released on October 7, had included Kabondo Kasipul MP Eve Akinyi Obare and nominated senators Hamida Ali Kibwana and Beth Kalunda Syengo. However, these three have now been removed without any formal explanation from the authorities.
Their slots have been filled by Kisumu West MP Rozaah Akinyi Buyu, Nominated Senator Catherine Muyeka Mumma, and Nominated Senator Maureen Tabitha Mutinda. The alterations were directed by the Parliamentary Honors Advisory Committee, which identifies individuals who have demonstrated outstanding service to the nation.
Kenya’s national honors are among the most respected forms of recognition, given to citizens who have excelled in public service, leadership, innovation, or community empowerment. The awards fall into various ranks, including Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (CBS), Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS), Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear (MBS), and the Order of the Grand Warrior (OGW).
The public has been invited to share their views or support regarding the revised list before October 13 through official government channels. These honors are usually presented during national celebrations such as Mashujaa Day and Jamhuri Day, where the President recognizes individuals who have made a lasting impact on the country.
As the deadline for feedback approaches, Kenyans are closely watching to see whether more names will be changed or if the current list will remain as the final version.
