Ruto in Sporty

Mukurweini MP John Kaguchia has stunned Kenyans with a bold claim that President William Ruto intends to close over 3,000 secondary schools, alleging it would further restrict access to education.

The assertion, shared via post by The Kenya Times, has ignited widespread debate, with some accusing the government of prioritizing financial gain over public welfare.

Kaguchia’s claim suggests the closures target schools with low enrollment, which struggle financially due to reduced capitation funds.

A report by Education News Hub noted that such schools face consolidation to address fiscal challenges. However, the MP’s statement lacks specifics, prompting skepticism.

Social media user Michael Odhiambo challenged Kaguchia to name the schools, while others like Paul Mutiso speculated the closures target “ghost schools” allegedly used for electoral fraud.

President Ruto has reaffirmed his commitment to free education, emphasizing it as a constitutional right despite budget constraints.

Speaking in Kariobangi, he highlighted investments in 23,000 new classrooms and teacher recruitment to improve access.

Critics, however, point to reduced capitation from Sh22,244 to Sh17,000 per secondary student as evidence of strained education funding.
