Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has revealed that his biggest concern after launching his new political party was the possibility of President William Ruto publicly congratulating him.
Speaking on Sunday, August 23, he claimed that he feared such a move could be used to distract him from his new political direction and create a different narrative around his decision to establish the party.
“To be honest, my biggest fear since launching my party has been William Ruto personally congratulating me. They are full of tricks, and I was praying that he would not pretend to congratulate me before I started media interviews,” he said.
Nyoro further claimed that he had received information suggesting that individuals within Ruto’s team had prepared congratulatory messages as part of a strategy.
“I had information that the President’s team was more concerned about my new direction and had crafted the congratulatory messages as a strategy to distract me,” he added.
In a presser on Monday, August 17, Nyoro announced his exit from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party and joined the People’s Party of Kenya (PPK).
“For the avoidance of doubt, I know you all know that we left the government a long time ago and dissociated ourselves from the wheelbarrow party, UDA. From what I can see, even those with the wheelbarrows themselves will eventually leave and abandon it,” he said.
Nyoro said his move to the People’s Party of Kenya would also see him and his supporters take an opposition role.
“As Ndindi Nyoro, together with my supporters, from today, I have joined a party called the People’s Party of Kenya. As members of the People’s Party of Kenya, we have today joined the opposition,” he added.
Nyoro urged Kenyans to consider the People’s Party as part of the political alternatives ahead of the 2027 General Election.
He said the party has leaders capable of working with others to bring about change in the country.
“When you look at the leaders who will take Kenya forward from next year, I also humbly ask the people of Kenya to consider the People’s Party. They, too, have leaders who can work together with others so that we can liberate Kenya in August next year,” he further said.
Nyoro also revealed that he had held consultations with several opposition leaders as he considered his political move
“I have taken time to consult almost all the opposition leaders. I have sat down with Peter Munya, Martha Karua, and James Orengo. You know Sifuna is my brother.
“I have sat down with Rigathi Gachagua and Kalonzo Musyoka. I want to confirm to you, I have had almost a year-long consultation with most of them including almost for a whole year, Dr Fred Matiang’i,” he noted.
