Ruto in Kilifi

President William Ruto has named former Principal Secretary Collette Suda as a new member of the National Police Service Commission (NPSC). The appointment was announced through an official notice dated June 27, and it takes effect immediately. Suda will serve a six-year term.

Her appointment follows her recent vetting by the Parliamentary Committee on Administration and Internal Security, which cleared her for the role.

She is joined by two others — Peris Muthoni Kimani and Benjamin Juma Ima — who were also named as commissioners in the same notice.

Prof. Suda brings with her a long history of public service. She previously held various senior government roles, including Principal Secretary for Gender, Senior Citizens Affairs and Special Programmes, as well as Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) in the Ministry of Energy.

She also served as PS in the State Department for University Education and Research under the Ministry of Education and as a CAS in the same ministry.

The new appointment places her at the heart of police reforms, where the NPSC plays a key role in recruitment, promotions, and oversight of police welfare. Her background in education, gender affairs, and public administration is expected to add value to the Commission’s mandate.

The changes come at a time when the police service faces growing scrutiny over conduct and accountability. With her experience in leadership and policy formulation, Suda is expected to help steer the Commission in improving service delivery within the security sector.

This appointment is part of a wider shake-up by President Ruto, as the government continues efforts to strengthen institutions and improve public confidence in key services such as policing. The trio now joins the Commission to support its work of ensuring efficiency and professionalism in the police force.
