Nairobi, Kenya – Social media has gone into overdrive after claims that social media influencer and blogger Pritty Vishy performed cosmetic surgery enhancements on her body, particularly the backside.
The controversy began when one of the users on TikTok stated that Vishy paid nothing for the procedure so that he could serve as an influencer for the clinic where he conducted the operation. The user also stated that the influencer became a type of brand ambassador after going viral on the internet.
The allegations quickly went viral on social media with diverse opinions from critics and fans. While others were confused by the reported sponsorship, others supported Vishy’s freedom to decide what she wants with her own body without apology.
The social media star fired back similarly, having no qualms about discussing the rumor. She made a bold and honest post on her social media platforms aimed at silencing the skeptics. Although she did not deny nor admit to having undergone the procedure, the tone of the post resonated well with most of her fans, who admired that she was standing up to cyberbullies.
“People are going to say something, no matter what you do or don’t do,” said one of her devotees. “At least Vishy’s living her truth.”
The incident has again put in the limelight the growing culture of cosmetic procedures among young Kenyan celebrities, where appearance begins to be associated with influence and endorsement contracts. Nairobi clinics have increasingly relied on social media by poaching influencers, which has earned them praise as well as condemnation in equal measures.
For Pritty Vishy, however, the storminess was less a question of procedure and more one of principle: having the power to define herself. And with her own group of people behind her, she is not disturbed by the storm.
