Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is facing increasing tensions within his party, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA). Party members have expressed concerns that UDA is losing ground to a revitalized Jubilee Party, which is regaining political momentum. There is a growing sense of frustration among UDA leaders who fear the party could lose further support if it does not adjust its strategies and reconnect with the electorate.
One of the key issues raised by these leaders is the party’s failure to effectively engage with the concerns of ordinary Kenyans. They have emphasized the need for UDA to adhere more closely to its initial slogan, “Skiza Wakenya” (Listen to Kenyans), which resonated with the public during its rise to power. There are concerns that the party has drifted away from its grassroots roots, and as a result, it is at risk of alienating its supporters.
In particular, some party members have pointed out that UDA’s current direction could further bolster the resurgence of Jubilee, which is positioning itself as a viable alternative. Jubilee, once considered a political force in decline, is regaining support in various regions, particularly as it seeks to recapture voters who feel disconnected from UDA’s leadership.
Gachagua, who has long been a key figure in UDA, is now facing pressure to address these concerns and steer the party back to its foundational values.
