Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s recent trip to the United States is attracting more attention—not just for his political moves but also for an unexpected photo that got Kenyans talking.

During his meeting with members of the Gusii community in Seattle, Gachagua posed for a photo with a towering man, and the internet exploded with laughter.

Gachagua, who is believed to be laying the groundwork for his 2027 presidential bid, was hosted by the Abagusii diaspora. While the event itself was calm and respectful, the photo with the extra-tall man quickly stole the show.

Kenyans online didn’t hold back. One user, Ngash, joked that the man had crushed Riggy G’s hand. Brandy asked if the man was really Kisii, while Osimbo added that the handshake looked more like a friendly grip-attack. The internet was having a field day.

Interestingly, some Kenyans were able to identify the man. According to Benard Omoke, the tall gentleman is Hon. Ondieki Mang’ang’a, a respected figure from Gusii who once worked with EasyCoach as a transport manager. His name alone sparked more jokes and admiration in the comments.

While the reactions were mostly hilarious, others viewed the meeting as part of Gachagua’s larger strategy to unite Kenyans abroad.

This is his second diaspora meeting after recently engaging the Kikuyu community in the US. He appears to be slowly building a political base, reaching out to the diaspora, and reconnecting with ethnic blocs that could support him come 2027.

Still, the Gusii giant has now become an internet sensation overnight. Kenyans love a good laugh, and this unexpected moment provided just that.

In the end, Gachagua’s handshake may have made headlines, but it also reminded us how one viral moment can bring a country together—in laughter. Let’s see what his next stop brings. One thing’s for sure—Kenyans will be watching!
