Family members, friends, and colleagues all came together in Siaya County to say their final goodbyes to Rose Benter Apondi. It was a really emotional funeral for the young RIAT student and SDA singer.
She was buried at her home in Uyoma on April 23. Her sudden and tragic passing honestly left a lot of people across the country in shock.
She had actually been missing for a while before someone finally found her in a forest over in Kisumu County.
Her family mentioned that by the time she was discovered, things were pretty bad. The body had decomposed quite a bit, and they even noticed some parts were missing.
Because of how she was found, the family chose to do a closed casket. They just had the coffin sealed right at the mortuary before bringing it to the burial.
Her aunt, Arich Ndege, spoke about how much this whole ordeal hurt them. She explained that seeing the state the young singer was left in was incredibly painful for the whole family.
She also pointed out that the autopsy could not really pinpoint how exactly she died just because so much time had passed.
The family stood by their claim that certain parts of her were just gone.
So many people showed up for the funeral. You had school friends, relatives, and even over 30 different SDA choirs there to pray and mourn with the family.
The police ended up arresting her ex boyfriend, Steven Coleman Okoth, for the murder.
From what we hear, he supposedly admitted to attacking her because he saw texts from some other guy on her phone.
Detectives think he tricked her into leaving her house by promising to help her find an internship. After that, everything just went terribly wrong.
It is just such a heartbreaking story, and people online have been talking about it a lot. Everyone is really just hoping the young student gets the justice she deserves.
