Renowned gospel musician and pastor Vincent Onyango popularly known by his stage name Vincent Senior has died in a road accident, in a heartbreaking sequence of events that links his final moments to the passing of his father.
According to reports, Onyango, 43, died in a fatal collision that occurred on Tuesday night while he was travelling alone from Mombasa to Nairobi.
His vehicle is said to have crashed head-on with a lorry at Kyumvi in Machakos, leaving him with injuries that proved fatal at the scene.
Onyango was widely celebrated for hit gospel tracks including “Kaburi ni Tajiri” and “Wanadamu ni Walewale,” songs that resonated with many worshippers and gospel music fans across Kenya.
His death has triggered an outpouring of grief, with followers mourning not only a talented singer but also a pastor whose ministry had touched the lives of those around him.
What has intensified public sorrow is the revelation that his father had died earlier the same night, creating what many are describing as a cruel and tragic twist of fate.
Sources close to the artist say Onyango had been preparing to check on his father as soon as he returned to Nairobi.
Confirming the details, a person familiar with Onyango’s situation said the singer had not received news of his father’s death before the accident.
The source, who requested anonymity, explained that Onyango had told them his father was unwell and receiving treatment in the intensive care unit.
The singer allegedly said he would travel through Siaya on his way back to visit his father, not knowing that his father had already passed away.
“He had not yet received the news of his father’s death. He had only told me that his father was sick and in the ICU.
He said that when he leaves Nairobi, he would pass through Siaya to see him, but he did not know that his father had already died,” the source said.
