United Democratic Alliance politician Jeremiah Kibiwott Kiptum has died while receiving treatment in a Nairobi hospital. He was the Member of County Assembly for Endo Ward in Marakwet East Sub County. His death followed a long illness that he had battled quietly.
Kibiwott was first elected to the Elgeyo Marakwet County Assembly in 2022. He was well known among residents who often referred to him as Jeremiah Biwott or Toriebe. Many described him as approachable and deeply connected to the people he served.
The news of his death was confirmed by County Assembly Speaker Lawi Kibire. He said the Assembly had lost a dedicated leader who worked with commitment and discipline. Kibire noted that Kibiwott always consulted residents before making key decisions.
According to the Speaker the late MCA served Endo Ward with a strong sense of duty. He said Kibiwott believed leadership meant listening and acting for the common good. His absence will be felt both in the Assembly and within the local community.
During his time in office Kibiwott chaired the Committee on Agriculture and Irrigation. He played a key role in pushing policies aimed at improving food production and water access. Colleagues said he was passionate about supporting farmers.
He also served as a member of several committees. These included Administration Justice Public Service and ICT. He was also part of the Tourism Trade Cooperatives Industrialisation and Wildlife committee where he contributed actively.
Governor Wisley Rotich also mourned the MCA and sent condolences to the family. He described Kibiwott as a committed public servant who had worked tirelessly since his election. The governor urged residents to stand with the family during the difficult period.
With permission from the family the governor confirmed the death at Nairobi Hospital. He extended sympathies to friends teachers leaders and the entire Endo Ward community. Messages of grief have continued to pour in.
The County Assembly has announced plans to support funeral arrangements. A team will be nominated to assist the family. Burial details will be shared once they are finalised.
