Joy Karambu, popularly known as Kawira from the iconic Kenyan TV show Papa Shirandula, played the hilarious and naive high school girl from Meru complete with that signature thick accent. She rose to fame on the Citizen TV comedy series, which ran for many years until it ended around 2020.

After the show wrapped up coinciding with challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic Joy continued her acting career. She joined the cast of Vioja Mahakamani on KBC), a long-running Kenyan court comedy/drama, where she has been performing. She’s also made guest appearances in skits, including with the Vitimbi crew during events like the 2023 Labour Day celebrations.

On a personal note, Joy was married to Pastor Ephantus Wahome Safari a gospel artist and motivational speaker from 2014 until their separation in 2020 after six years.

They have twins a son and daughter after tragically losing one of triplets at birth. She has spoken openly about walking away from the marriage, citing irreconcilable differences, and has focused on raising her children, her faith, and her career since then.

As of early 2026, she remains active in Nairobi as a digital creator, voice-over artist, brand promoter, and media personality.
