Parents and students have breathed a sigh of relief as the Ministry of Education announces an extension of the Grade 10 placement revision period.

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba revealed the good news on December 30, 2025, giving learners another chance to reconsider their senior school placements ahead of the new school year.

The review period, initially running from December 23 to 29, 2025, has now been extended to January 6–9, 2026.

This means students who were unsatisfied with their initial placements can apply for a second round of review.

“This extension offers an opportunity for learners to request reconsideration of their placements, especially those who were not successfully placed in their preferred schools or subject combinations,” CS Ogamba said in his statement.

The announcement follows the conclusion of the first round of placements, which began on December 14 and ended on December 19, 2025.

During this period, 211,636 applications were successfully approved, but 143,821 applications were rejected.

The reasons for the large number of rejections were mainly related to limited school capacity and subject availability.

“We received an unprecedented number of review requests, and while many learners secured their desired placements, some schools simply could not accommodate the overwhelming demand,” Ogamba explained.

For parents of students who were among the 144,000 rejected applicants, this extension offers a second chance to secure the best possible school placement.

With the January 6th deadline fast approaching, many will be eagerly waiting to see if they can secure the placements they initially missed out on.

With the clock ticking down to the start of the new school year, this decision gives a glimmer of hope to thousands of hopeful students and their families.
