Bobi ans Bes

Ugandan opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has called for the immediate release of lawyer Erias Lukwago after reports emerged that he had been transferred from prison to Mulago National Referral Hospital in critical condition.

Bobi Wine emphasized that political differences should never outweigh an individual’s fundamental rights, particularly the right to life and human dignity. He joined other Ugandans in demanding Lukwago’s urgent release to enable him to receive the medical attention he needs.

In a statement posted on his official X account, the National Unity Platform (NUP) leader expressed concern over Lukwago’s reported condition and criticized the treatment of individuals facing political disagreements with those in power.

Bobi Wine said Uganda should be a country where political differences do not justify violating citizens’ rights or subjecting opponents to what he described as unfair judicial proceedings.

His remarks come amid growing concerns over Lukwago’s health. During recent court proceedings, the lawyer reportedly requested permission to travel abroad for specialized medical treatment. However, the court declined his application, raising concerns among his supporters about his access to the care he believes is necessary.

The latest developments have intensified calls for Lukwago’s release, with Bobi Wine adding his voice to those urging authorities to prioritize the lawyer’s health and welfare.
