German national Thomas Schwinn addressed the ongoing discussion about Raila Odinga’s educational background in a recent exchange on X.
Schwinn asserted that it is not technically possible for Raila to have a bachelor’s or master’s degree from East German universities because those degrees were not available when Odinga studied there.
He went on to explain that although Raila may have a degree, it does not equate to a master’s and should not be referred to as such under German law. Schwinn also included an AFP fact-check on Raila’s degree.
The debate centered on the ongoing controversy surrounding Raila Odinga’s qualifications and grew more heated when other users disputed Schwinn’s statements.
Thomas Ojanga, for example, defended the German Dipl. Ing. degree, arguing that it is superior to the English MSc. Schwinn, standing firm, responded by asserting his expertise in German laws and systems, explaining that it is illegal to call oneself a master or bachelor unless officially issued by a German institution.
