ODM party leader Raila Odinga is recovering well after receiving medical treatment in India, his elder brother and Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga has confirmed.
Speaking to journalists in Siaya on Friday, Oburu assured Kenyans that the former Prime Minister is in stable condition and responding positively to treatment.
He explained that Raila had traveled to India for a routine medical check-up and minor procedure, which went smoothly.
“Raila is doing well and recovering steadily. There is no cause for alarm. The doctors in India have taken good care of him, and he will soon be back home,” Oburu said.
This confirmation came days after speculation spread on social media suggesting that Raila was seriously ill. The rumors caused worry among his supporters across the country.
Earlier, Raila’s wife, Ida Odinga, had dismissed the reports, saying her husband was in good health and that people should stop spreading false information.
Oburu criticized those spreading lies about Raila’s health, saying it was irresponsible and disrespectful.
He urged Kenyans to avoid listening to unverified claims, especially on social media, and instead wait for official communication from the family or party leaders.
“People should not panic or believe everything they see online. Raila is strong, and we thank God for his continued recovery,” he added.
Raila Odinga, who has been a central figure in Kenyan politics for decades, has in recent months kept a relatively low profile, leading to increased curiosity about his whereabouts.
However, his allies insist that he has simply taken some time off to rest after years of intense political activity.
