The race for the presidential seat is gaining momentum as we head to the next general election in 2027. President Ruto is expected to lock horns with the candidate that will be fronted by the opposition for the top seat. The key members of the opposition are DCP party leader Rigathi Gachagua, Jubilee deputy party leader Fred Matiang’i, Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembea.
The most recent opinion poll that was done Mizani Africa reveals that President Ruto can beat Kalonzo, Matiang’i and Gachagua combined in Tana River county. According to the poll, Ruto is the most preferred pesidential candidate in Tana River county with 62.4% support. He is followed by the former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i with 10%. Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and DCP party leader Rigathi Gachagua are third and fourth with 4.8% and 3.3% support respectively.
This data indicates that president Ruto can single handedly outsmart any political formation in Tana River County. However, maybe his popularity has attributed by ODM party that is currently working with him. ODM is the most popular party in the Coast and it might be reason behind Ruto’s growing popularity in Tana River.
