Kenya Meteorological Service has issued a five-day weather forecast covering all 47 counties from Saturday, September 19, to Wednesday, September 23, warning of rainfall, cold conditions and high temperatures in different parts of the country.
The forecast indicates that light to moderate rainfall will occur in various counties during the period, with central Kenya, western regions and areas around the Lake Victoria Basin expected to receive some of the heaviest showers.
Eight counties — Nairobi, Kajiado, Kiambu, Murang’a, Nyeri, Nyandarua, Wajir and Garissa are expected to experience intermittent cold and cloudy conditions at different times during the forecast period.
Nyandarua is forecast to record the lowest temperatures nationally. The county could experience overnight temperatures as low as 5°C on Monday, September 21, while minimum temperatures on other days are expected to remain between 6°C and 7°C.
Other highland counties, including Nyeri, Kiambu, Murang’a and Machakos, are expected to record minimum temperatures ranging from 13°C to 17°C.
Meanwhile, temperatures will remain considerably higher in parts of northern Kenya. Mandera is expected to reach a high of 37°C on Saturday and Sunday. Wajir and Turkana could also record temperatures between 34°C and 37°C at various points during the period, with sunny intervals expected.
In Nairobi, Saturday and Sunday are expected to remain largely dry with sunny spells before light showers develop on Monday. The capital will then experience varying cloudy and sunny conditions through Wednesday, with daytime temperatures ranging between 23°C and 26°C and night temperatures around 14°C to 15°C.
Coastal counties such as Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi and Lamu are expected to receive light to moderate showers, particularly during mornings and nights, while temperatures remain in the high 20s.
Western counties, including Kakamega, Bungoma, Vihiga and Busia, could experience afternoon showers, particularly toward Tuesday and Wednesday. Kisumu, Siaya, Homa Bay and Migori are expected to alternate between sunny periods and light showers.
The meteorological service classifies most of the expected rainfall as light, meaning less than 5mm in 24 hours. Moderate rainfall of between 5mm and 20mm is possible in parts of Kirinyaga, Embu and Trans Nzoia on specific days.
The authority advised Kenyans to use the five-day forecast together with daily 24-hour forecasts and county-specific weather updates issued by meteorological officials.
