NTV Presenter

Popular NTV presenter Tracy Wanjiru has opened up about her life, and disclosed that things have not been easy for her.

This is because she has been experiencing some racial discrimination as she goes on with her day to day life, and this has left her wondering what exactly she needs to do in order to convince people that she is indeed just a Kenyan like any other out there.

Many people have actually been confusing Tracy Wanjiru for being a Mzungu, while in real sense she is just half Korean and half Kenyan (Kikuyu)

This confusion has however worked against her, because she is now treated differently as some people do not believe that she is a Kenyan.

Tracy Wanjiru revealed these details in a post that she made on her Instagram account on Thursday, the 17th of July, where she even admitted that sometimes she is forced to pay more money for a product, because traders intentionally hike the price thinking that she is a Mzungu.

“I can’t tell you how many times a day, I see people shocked when I speak Kiswahili, sheng or Kikuyu (sometimes broken but who’s counting 😅). Its the instant double take for me like I just performed a magic trick. “Haiya, huyu mzungu anajua sheng?! Unajua Kiswahili??” And I’m like…BRUH! Let’s not even get into how shopping at some places can be so complicated, because some vendors will hike the prices when they see me…” she said in part.

Tracy Wanjiru further revealed that her day to day life is usually a constant battle of her trying to fit in, so that she can be accepted by other Kenyans as one of them.

“…its funny now but in the moment, you’re just caught between laughing and questioning your entire existence. Being mixed in a country where everyone looks like they “fit” in one tribe or language come with its own complexities. You’re always explaining, translating and trying to belong, but also proving that you already do…” she said.

The Glam show host added:

“Sometimes I wonder if I should wear a sign: “Yes, I’m Kenyan and No, I didn’t learn Swahili on Duolingo!” 😂.

It’s the constant balancing act of being both and neither, a walking melting pot of culture, and the occasional Kikuyu tongue-twist that humbles me every time…”
