The most memorable moment in the plush wedding of Senator Allan Chesang was contributed by Wycliffe Oparanya the former Kakamega Governor which made the guests at the wedding burst with laughter. Being one of those known for their humor and candidness Oparanya broke away from the formal speeches loaded with pieces of advice that dominated most of the wedding ceremony.
While many speakers were giving advice on marriage to the newlyweds Oparanya did just the opposite in a rather refreshing manner. When the microphone was handed over to him he said he would rather not say anything that might lecture anyone about marriage a thing that brought laughter and applause from those present. I have nothing to say he began in a playful tone before hinting that given his own experiences as a polygamous man it might be best if he refrained from offering any guidance. The crowd erupted in amusement clearly entertained by his witty self awareness.
It soon became the climax of the entire event with guests taking videos using their phones. Social media users have since shared short video clips of Oparanya’s side splitting yet brief appearance. A number of them congratulated him for being so candid and able to poke fun at himself. Most of the speeches delivered by other dignitaries and political bigwigs present were quite serious so it set him apart.
The ability of Oparanya to poke fun at himself amid thoughts of complications in married life touched the hearts of those present. Humor speaks at times volumes beyond words of advice. The laughter subsided the celebration continued and one thing was clear the former governor had once again managed to charm his audience with ease.
