P Salasya

Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya has shared his changing political perspectives, admitting that his views on several leaders have shifted as political alignments continue to evolve in Kenya.

In his statement, Salasya explained that although he supported Boni Khalwale and Cleo Malala, his preferred positions for the two leaders were in the Senate rather than the Kakamega governorship. He revealed that he had initially favoured either Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa or Elsie Muhanda for the county’s top seat, but recent political developments have left him uncertain about his position.

Salasya’s remarks reflect the complicated nature of political alliances, where personal preferences and political circumstances can change over time. His admission that he is now at a crossroads suggests that his earlier preferences may no longer be as straightforward as they once appeared.

The outspoken legislator also addressed his changing perception of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna. According to Salasya, he previously did not like Sifuna while the senator was in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), but he now finds himself appreciating him in the opposition.

His statement highlights how political positioning can influence public perceptions of leaders. It also illustrates the fluid nature of Kenyan politics, where politicians and their supporters may reassess their views as parties, alliances and political responsibilities change.

Salasya delivered his message in a humorous tone, joking that politics was giving him a difficult time. He added that he was still in bed in America at 5 a.m., accompanying the statement with laughing emojis.

The lighthearted ending gave his political reflections a personal touch, presenting the legislator as someone openly acknowledging the confusion that shifting political dynamics can create.

His comments come amid continued political discussions across Kenya as leaders position themselves around different parties and potential alliances. However, Salasya did not announce a final decision on his preferred candidate for the Kakamega governorship in the statement.

For now, his remarks leave room for further discussion about the relationships between political leaders, party affiliations and individual preferences. Whether his current uncertainty will lead to a clearer position remains to be seen.
