Alexander Mutunga, a 20-month-old infant, died hours after being beaten while in police custody, causing his family to endure an unthinkable tragedy.

The event started when Ziporah Mutheu, Mutunga’s mother, went to collect money that a local entrepreneur owed her but refused to pay.

The entrepreneur flipped the case on Mutheu and reported to police that Mutheu owes her Ksh 10,000.

Mutheu had her infant strapped to her back when the policemen showed up to take her into custody, but this did not appear to reassure them.

She claims that the police slapped her three times and smacked her with a baton, one of slaps landed her son.

Her son struck his head on the counter and the pallet when she collapsed to the floor.

A postmortem examination conducted at Kambu Sub-County Hospital confirmed that the baby had died from internal bleeding.

No arrest has been made despite reports made in several police stations.
