Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has openly shared his frustrations about the difficulties he is facing in his position.
Speaking in an interview with Citizen TV, Gachagua revealed that certain people close to President William Ruto are trying to undermine him.
He claimed these individuals, who work within State House, have been making his work difficult, and he feels humiliated by their actions.
Gachagua explained that these challenges have made it hard for him to deliver on his responsibilities.
According to him, even Cabinet Secretaries and other junior officials have shown him disrespect, and the President has remained quiet about it.
This, Gachagua believes, is a significant part of the problem. He hinted that President Ruto, instead of stepping in to defend him, seems to be watching from the sidelines.
The Deputy President expressed disappointment, especially considering the promise Ruto made to him when they took office in 2022.
At the time, Gachagua said Ruto assured him and his family that he would not face the kind of humiliation that Ruto experienced under former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Unfortunately, Gachagua now feels like this promise has not been kept, and the situation is only getting worse.
In his appeal, Gachagua asked President Ruto to step in and stop those working to frustrate him. He pleaded with Ruto to let him finish his term as Deputy President without facing further troubles.
Gachagua admitted that the past year has been tough, but he hopes Ruto will keep his word and allow him to work for the remaining three years of their term.
Gachagua also explained why he has missed several presidential functions. He revealed that he was removed from a WhatsApp group where all the president’s events are planned.
