A family in Machakos County is reeling from the sudden loss of their daughter, Consolata Nduku, who was in Form Three at Katoloni Senior School.

Relatives say the teen got sick while at boarding school. The family got a call saying she wasn’t feeling well and was being taken to Machakos Level 5 Hospital.

Soon after, they received the worst news imaginable. By the time they got there, Consolata had died.

Her grandmother, Faith Ndunge, fought back tears as she remembered the awful moment.

They hurried to meet other relatives before going to the hospital, hoping to find her getting care. Instead, they were told she was gone.

The family insists that Consolata didn’t have any health problems. They wonder how a child who hadn’t complained of being sick could get so bad so quickly.

The way things happened, as they were told, doesn’t quite add up, and they want answers.

Her uncle, Alphonse Muli, said parents need to know what’s happening right away when their kids get sick at school. Too often, families are only told when it’s too late, he said.

Katoloni Senior School principal Ben Masila defended the school, saying the school nurse saw the student first and gave her medicine for the pain.

He said her condition got worse the next morning, so they rushed her to Machakos Level 5 Hospital.

He added that they called the family using the emergency number the student provided.

Police are investigating, and the family is waiting for an autopsy to find out what caused her death.
