A standard home sale in Nakuru took a emotional turn when a family photo revealed a hidden twin brother who had been separated at birth four decades ago.
Ben Abrahams had traveled from Nairobi to Nakuru Town to sell his late mother’s house shortly after her burial. While clearing out the house, his wife Nancy picked up a childhood photo album. Later at a parking lot along Kenyatta Avenue, the album slipped, dropping a single faded photograph from 1986.
The photograph showed a young Ben alongside his mother and another boy who looked identical to him, labeled “Ben and Richard.”
Driven by shock, Ben searched his mother’s old documents in Nakuru before driving to the local hospital to examine archived birth records. The documents confirmed his mother had given birth to twin boys, but left Richard behind due to a severe neurological condition requiring long-term care.
Ben tracked his long-lost brother to a specialized care facility nearby, where he found Richard receiving treatment.
“Looking at him in that bed was like looking straight into a mirror of my past,” Ben said, overwhelmed by grief and relief. “I spent my whole life feeling alone, never knowing half of my story was right here.”
