A section of farmers based in mount Kenya region are reportedly counting loses after buying fake fertilizers that were being sold at cheap prices.
According to one of the vegetable farmers based in Muranga county, he has noted that some of the shops selling farm inputs have been providing fake fertilizers to farmers through backdoors at cheap prices.
The farmer narrates that he once bought a number of sacks of cheap fertilizer from one of the shops and later realized that the sacks were filled with white soil and in some instances he found flour packed in the sacks instead of fertilizer.
Meanwhile, the farmers have cried out to the authorities to swiftly act and save them from the cartels who have been selling fake fertilizers at cheap prices within the region.
“Sisi kama wakulima huletewa mbolea lakini mazao yanapoharibika hatuwezi kuwapata matapeli (We the farmers are being given the fertilizers but when the crops are destroyed we have nowhere to find the cartels).” The farmer noted.
