Pastor Victor Kanyari has stirred public debate yet again, after releasing old WhatsApp conversations he had with the late gospel singer Betty Bayo.
The messages surfaced on social media this week and revealed private exchanges about school fees pertaining to their two children, Sky and Danny.

In the leaked screenshots, Betty updates the pastor on matters concerning Sky’s tuition, putting the school fees at KSh 342,000. She reminded him that he had already cleared KSh 230,000 and requested the balance of KSh 114,000.
In the messages, she asked him to send the balance directly to her so that she may channel it towards Sky’s studies in the United States, where the child’s tuition was listed as one thousand dollars.
The resurfacing of the chats has attracted mixed reactions from Kenyans. Many expressed their shock at the figures, highlighting how expensive the education for the children was.
Others commended the pastor for consistently meeting his financial responsibilities, adding that the couple had long separated.
Online discussions grew quickly, with some users pointing out that despite the public scrutiny often surrounding Kanyari, the messages painted a picture of a father actively involved in his children’s welfare.
The clarity of how Betty communicated the fees, coupled with Kanyari’s propensity for quick responses in the past, allowed a very personal layer to a story that has unfolded largely in the public eye.
What many took note of was the sizeable contribution the preacher makes to his children’s education. For others, it was the fact that beyond the headlines and controversies lie private duties and many sacrifices that never make it onto the front page.
The resurfaced messages offered a peek into the cooperative co-parenting dynamic the two shared, even in trying times, as the family continues to mourn over the untimely passing of Betty.
