Shock and outrage have gripped a Western Kenyan village after a pastor was apprehended while indecently touching an elderly woman during what he described as a “spiritual cleansing session.” The incident, which occurred in the woman’s home, left residents furious, accusing the preacher of using religion as a cover to prey on defenseless church members.
Witnesses said the woman, estimated to be in her late seventies, had approached the pastor for spiritual intervention following reports of mysterious events troubling her household. Claiming he could cleanse the home of evil forces, the pastor asked to pray privately with her. Concerned neighbors, however, became uneasy after hearing strange noises and decided to investigate.
They burst into the house and found the pastor partially undressed, fondling the elderly woman while pretending to perform a religious ritual. The terrified woman was visibly distressed, while the villagers expressed outrage. When questioned, the pastor attempted to justify his actions by saying he was being guided by the Holy Spirit, but no one accepted his excuse.
Authorities were called immediately, leading to the pastor’s arrest. Police confirmed he was taken into custody for questioning, while the victim was sent for medical and psychological evaluation.
Church leaders in the area condemned the disgraceful act, describing it as a betrayal of trust and a stain on the image of true men of God. They advised residents to be alert and to report any questionable spiritual activities.
The case has reignited debates on religious exploitation, with many calling for strict laws against self-proclaimed pastors who deceive people with fake deliverance claims. The elderly woman’s family, still reeling from the incident, hopes justice will prevail and that measures will be put in place to prevent similar abuse.
