Parliamentary Committee on Defence, Intelligence, and Foreign Relations, headed by Major (Rtd) Sheikh Abdullahi Bashir, conducted a visit to Moi Air Base on October 9th to evaluate its operational preparedness and examine the status of current capital projects.The delegation was warmly received by Brigadier Samuel Kipkorir, Deputy Commander of the Kenya Air Force, who provided an in-depth briefing on the history of the base, the types of air assets in operation, current development initiatives, and the challenges encountered.

Following the briefing, members of the committee toured key sections of the base to gain firsthand insight into its operations and infrastructure development.

The visit allowed the lawmakers to see the practical implementation of projects aimed at enhancing the base’s operational efficiency.

Also in attendance were Brigadier Stephen Kapkory, Base Commander of Embakasi Air Base, alongside commanding officers, senior officers, and other service members who provided guidance throughout the tour.

Hon. Sheikh Abdullahi Bashir emphasized the importance of parliamentary oversight in ensuring that Kenya’s defence installations remain fully prepared and modernized.

He noted that such engagements allow lawmakers to better understand operational needs and support initiatives that strengthen national security.The committee’s visit underscores a growing commitment by Parliament to engage directly with the Kenya Defence Forces, promoting transparency, accountability, and strategic development across all military installations.

By reviewing both operational capabilities and capital projects, the committee seeks to ensure that Moi Air Base continues to play a pivotal role in safeguarding the nation, while also supporting the Kenya Air Force’s long-term modernization goals.

The interaction between legislators and military leadership reflects the continued collaboration necessary for a resilient defence infrastructure capable of addressing evolving security challenges.
