A tragic accident on January 19 has left parents and families heartbroken after 12 schoolchildren lost their lives while on their way to school.
The young pupils were involved in a collision when a driver reportedly tried to overtake another vehicle.
The heartbreaking incident occurred early in the morning, when the students were traveling to school in a minibus.
Families are now mourning the tragic loss of their children and are seeking justice for the victims.
Among those who perished was 13-year-old Leano Moiloa. Her family is struggling to come to terms with their loss.
Bonnie Khumalo, a spokesperson for Leano’s family, shared that the girl had prayed with her mother just before leaving for school.
“She didn’t know it would be her last day,” Khumalo said. The family is determined to ensure that the driver is held accountable for this horrific accident.
Naledi Motsapi, a 16-year-old student, also lost her life in the crash. Her aunt, Leah Motsapi, expressed how much Naledi meant to the family.
“She was like the lastborn. We were excited for her to finish school. Her loss is devastating,” Leah shared. Naledi was a bright student at El Shaddai Christian School, and her family described her as full of joy and energy.
Another victim, 19-year-old Phelello Motaung, was also among those who died. His uncle, Ruben Bokgobo, shared his grief over losing a child with so many dreams.
“Bokgomo was like a son to me. The driver must be held responsible for this tragedy,” he stated, referring to another victim, 13-year-old Bokamoso Bokgobo, who attended Hoërskool Vanderbijlpark.
