Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna left senators and students laughing after making a funny remark about Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei during a Senate session on Thursday.

The Senate was hosting students from Kajiado County who had visited Parliament to learn how the House works and how leaders debate national issues.

While welcoming the students, Sifuna congratulated them for visiting the Senate and encouraged them to work hard in school so they can become future leaders.

He told the students that one day they could also become senators and sit in the same seats occupied by current leaders.

Sifuna then jokingly said that many current senators do not seem interested in staying in the Senate for a long time. He quickly added that the only exception was Senator Cherargei.

The remark made the whole chamber burst into laughter, including the visiting students and some senators. Cherargei also appeared to enjoy the joke as the session continued in a light mood.

The funny exchange showed the friendly side of politics, where leaders sometimes joke with each other despite having different political views.

Sifuna is well known for his humorous and outspoken style in political debates, while Cherargei is also famous for being vocal and active in Senate discussions.

The students were later encouraged by senators to stay focused on their studies and prepare themselves to become future leaders in Kenya.
