United States embassy has cautioned its citizens against visiting Kisumu County during the upcoming general elections as they feel the region will not be safe for them if violence erupts.
They further called its citizens to avoid crowds and demonstrations, follow media updates and be aware of their surroundings even when they are in other parts of the country.
Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi reacted to the news and said that he is wishing and praying that violence does not happen in Kisumu. He further said he hopes the country will be peaceful before, during and after the elections.
“We even wish and pray that violence never happens in Kisumu. We are hopeful that the entire country will remain peaceful before, during and after elections,” he tweeted.
In an earlier press briefing, Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Interior and Coordination Dr Fred Matiangi said that security has been beefed up in the country and all the hotspots have security agencies sent to make sure everything goes on peacefully.
