President William Ruto is making strategic moves to regain support in the Mount Kenya region ahead of the 2027 elections. This comes as political divisions and shifting alliances continue to grow in the region.
Reports show that President Ruto is reaching out to former President Uhuru Kenyatta, a key figure in Mt Kenya politics.
There are talks that some of Uhuru’s allies may be appointed to powerful government positions, including the Interior Cabinet Secretary post. This move is seen as a way to unite the region behind the Kenya Kwanza alliance and reduce the influence of other political leaders.
Mount Kenya holds a big voting bloc and is very important for any presidential hopeful. However, the region is now divided, with various leaders pulling in different directions. That is why President Ruto is working to bring in more supporters from the area.
In addition to talks with Uhuru, Ruto has brought in former opposition leaders from Mt Kenya like Mutahi Kagwe, William Kabogo, and Lee Kinyanjui. These leaders have been nominated for top government roles, another sign of efforts to win the region’s trust.
Even though Uhuru has said he is no longer active in politics, his voice still carries weight in Mount Kenya. If he joins hands with Ruto, it could shift the region’s political direction ahead of 2027.
As elections draw near, Mt Kenya will remain a battleground for political influence.
Kenyans’ Reactions Online;
Simon Kipsang: “This government has run out of ideas and we only need brilliant and sharp minds to bring it down. Heavy politics with zero development, no progress. Let’s always think of having him as one term president as we counter attack his strategies, nothing is impossible.”
Bernard Ke: “President William Ruto should get two terms. One term as president and another term as a prisoner in Kamiti😏.”
Mwangi Gichuhi: “Ruto does not need anybody’s effort to win Mt Kenya. All he needs is to continue sending a few coins to churches. The Church people are usually confused and they will vote for Ruto as long as they are taken care of.”
Wa Gakami Khalifa: “The president should not worry about Mt Kenya,the people he should fear is the genz’s.”
