Dissatisfied with the voting process, the DCP party candidate in Mbeere North parliamentary race Newton Karish is moving to court to challenge the narrow win of UDA’s Leo Wamuthende.

As revealed by his lawyer Ndegwa Njiru, Karish has raised one reason as to why he is moving to court to challenge Wamuthende’s win and subsequently seek invalidation of results.

Reason: Discrepancy in Wamuthende’s name captured in the ballot paper and the name captured in the IEBC KIEMS kit.

When Wamuthende presented himself at the polling station, the IEBC’s KIEMS kit identified him as Leonard Muriuki. However, on the ballot paper, his name was captured at Leo Wamuthende.

As argued by advocate Ndegwa Njiru, the UDA candidate had changed his name from Leonard Muriuki to Leo Wamuthende and a result, this was the name that was supposed to be captured by IEBC.

“In essence, there is no registered voter in Mbeere North by the name “Leonard Muriuki,” nor is there any lawful alias linking him to “Leo wa Muthende,” Njiru argued via a statement posted on X.

The constitutional grounds Ndegwa Njiru intends to raise as a result of the name discrepancy are still unclear. However, it is likely that Njiru will argue that Wamuthende voted illegally.
