The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) fraternity, led by Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, has strongly condemned remarks made by Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga that appeared to mock the death of former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga.
In a viral video circulating on social media, Kahiga is seen making what many have described as “careless and disrespectful comments” while seemingly celebrating the death of the opposition icon.
The video has sparked outrage across the country, with Kenyans from all walks of life demanding accountability and respect for the fallen leader.
Governor Wanga, speaking on Monday morning, said the comments were an insult not only to the Odinga family but also to millions of Kenyans who revered Raila as a champion of democracy and justice.
“We as ODM will never associate with people who mock death or those who take pride in the suffering of others. Kahiga and his team have crossed the line,” she said.
“Let it be clear any leader still aligning themselves with that kind of politics cannot be our friend.”
Wanga further called upon residents of Mt. Kenya region to distance themselves from divisive leaders like Governor Kahiga and former impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, saying their actions were not reflective of the true values of the region.
