A fierce fire on Saturday morning gutted the residence of Rangwe Member of Parliament, Hon. Lilian Gogo, destroying property valued at millions of shillings.
According to Ramogi FM, the inferno broke out in the early hours of the morning under unclear circumstances. Witnesses said the blaze quickly engulfed the entire house, reducing furniture, electronics, and personal belongings to ashes before firefighters could contain it.
Preliminary information indicates that the fire may have been started by unknown individuals. However, the motive behind the suspected arson remains unclear.
Authorities have since launched a full investigation to establish the cause of the fire and identify those responsible.
Fortunately, Hon. Gogo, who was elected on the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket, was not at home when the incident occurred. Neighbors said they were shocked by the sudden blaze and expressed relief that no injuries or fatalities were reported.
Security officers and fire department officials arrived at the scene to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby structures. Police have cordoned off the area as part of their ongoing investigations.
The incident has drawn widespread condemnation from local leaders and residents, who called for swift action to bring the perpetrators to justice. They also urged the government to enhance security in the area to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
