An MCA from Kisumu County Assembly sparked reactions while in Homa Bay during the burial of Kasipul MP Honorable Charles Were when he claimed that Honorable Charles Were was a firm MP who stood by the ODM party.
The MCA praised Charles Were’s loyalty and commitment to the party, saying he never wavered in his support for the party leader, Honorable Raila Odinga.
While addressing mourners, the MCA slammed some ODM MPs like Babu Owino, accusing them of betraying the ODM party and its leader.
He criticized these MPs for openly opposing Raila’s recent decisions, including the move to work with President William Ruto’s government under the broad-based government initiative.
According to the MCA, leaders like Babu Owino were not showing the discipline and loyalty expected within the party, especially at a time when unity is crucial.
The remarks caused mixed reactions among those present, with some supporting the MCA’s sentiments while others viewed the statements as unnecessary at a funeral.
The MCA emphasized that Honorable Charles Were’s legacy should inspire ODM members to remain firm and united behind Raila Odinga, warning that internal wrangles and public criticism could weaken the party’s standing ahead of future political battles.
