New details show that the vehicle driven by Cyrus Jirongo before his fatal crash in Naivasha was not registered in his name.
A Busia-bound Climax bus slammed into the Mercedes Benz at Karai, a notorious black spot on the Nairobi–Nakuru Highway, raising renewed questions about the former MP’s past association with the car.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Jirongo was driving a Mercedes Benz with registration KCZ 350C.
However, records on the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) website indicate that the vehicle is owned by Smart Cars Limited, an import company based in Nairobi.
Although the NTSA records do not list Jirongo as the direct owner of the ill-fated car, it is reported that he had used the vehicle for some time.
This is not the first instance of the former MP’s association with the car causing public concern. Back in December 2020, Jirongo was linked to a similar incident in Nairobi when he was involved in an accident that injured a boda boda rider.
The revelation has sparked discussions about vehicle ownership, responsibility, and past behaviour of public figures.
Many Kenyans have expressed concern over how high-profile individuals often operate vehicles registered under third parties, raising questions about accountability in road accidents.
The Naivasha crash has left the nation mourning and sparked a renewed focus on road safety at dangerous spots like Karai, where multiple fatal accidents have been recorded over the years.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision to determine all contributing factors.
