The Raila Odinga-led Azimio la Umoja opposition alliance are reportedly preparing their lineup for the 2027 race against President Ruto-led administration.
There are widespread rumours that the team is yet to decide on who will fly their flag among the top Azimio la Umoja principals.
According to Nation weekly review, there are reports that Raila Odinga is reportedly grooming the former Vice-president to take the mantle from him in 2027.
The paper reports that the decision by Odinga to have Kalonzo Musyoka as the leader of his team for talks with the government in the bi-partisan engagement is plot to elevate the former Vice President.
Reports also have it that Kalonzo’s camp is confident that Raila Odinga will support him in 2027 having supported him for three consecutive time.
Makueni County Senator Dan Maanzo who is Musyoka’s confidant now opines that should the opposition team and Kenya Kwanza agree to entrench the office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary in constitution, Odinga will be allowed to take the position.
Maanzo who spoke to Nation opines that once Kalonzo is taken as the Azimio la Umoja flag bearer, Narc party leader Martha Karua who deputized Odinga in 2022 will play second role to Kalonzo.
“We can have Kalonzo as presidential candidate and still retain Karua as the running mate and possibly make Raila Odinga the Prime Minister.” Said the Makueni County Senator.
